Thousands of operations and appointments have been cancelled at an NHS Trust after a cyber attack forced management to shut down the computer systems at three hospitals.
Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust said the cancellations continued into a third day on Wednesday after the attack took place on Sunday. The trust typically has about 1,000 appointments each day at the Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital.
All planned operations, outpatient appointments and diagnostic procedures, with a small number of exceptions, were cancelled.
A spokesperson at the Department of Health said it was not the first cyber attack on a hospital trust in England but would not give details on whether such incidents are routine, occasional or rare.
